Advent – Beginning a New Year in Our Church

From Fr. Matthew:

“The beginning of Advent marks the start of a new liturgical year in the Church. Advent is a season of devout and joyful expectation. Its four Sundays, and the days between highlight our desire and longing for peace, justice and unity. The first part of Advent looks forward to the parousia , the second coming of Jesus. Together we look FORWARD to His return while preparing our lives and hearts to greet him. The second part of Advent from December 17th to the 24th is a focused preparation for the joyful
celebration of the first coming of Jesus. This intense anticipation during the last days of Advent reflect our longing for Emmanuel God with us. As we move towards Christmas, we worship our God who came to be with us, who is always with us, and who will come again in glory. As disciples of the Lord we long to know and live out the gift of Hope, and the fruits of Peace, Joy, and Charity. As we move towards Christmas, let us keep a good Advent, doing all we can to prepare ourselves to join the
shepherds and magi in their adoration of the King of kings.
