Blessing of Easter Food and Traditional Easter Baskets

Come to the church for a solemn blessing of Easter groceries!
Holy Saturday April 3 — 4:00pm — at Our Lady of the Assumption Church

We will bless the baskets outdoors unless weather does not permit. In the church, spaced out as required if the weather is tough. Especially in Slavic cultures, there is a tradition of preparing a special basket of food ready to enjoy on Easter Sunday. This basket is brought to the church to be blessed before the Great Feast begins. Traditional foods included in the baskets (lined with a white cloth) are meats, eggs, bread, salt, horseradish, butter and cheese. Feel free, though, to pack your basket with samples of whatever you will enjoy on Easter Sunday, or those things you have fasted from during Lent.
